PCL is a Page Description Language (PDL) that works for legacy apps, business apps and Microsoft Office - especially Publisher much better than other drivers.

Color matching from Publisher is exceptionally challenging without a PCL driver.

PostScript, alternatively, is a premium PDL that offers higher speed, higher resolution, better color matching in many cases, and generally has more compatibility with Adobe documents and workflows.

The PCL driver is mostly be for ancient models that no longer make sense to have in service.

Whats important is that the driver and printer support the same language.

This is like I had a super user who wanted to edit a file.txt.

But she does not want to use notepad as this is a text file not a note, then also does not want to use M Word as the text file contain many words.

Still works if you really have applications that need it and I know they are around.
